Running Helps Me Write Code
lifethinking
Not metaphorically. Literally.
I run three times a week. Nothing crazy. Four to five kilometers at a pace that would embarrass a real runner. But the runs are where problems solve themselves.
There is something about the rhythm of feet hitting pavement that untangles logic. I have debugged entire architectures mid-run. I have written commit messages in my head during the warmup. I have come home and written a function that worked on the first try because I had already written it in my legs.
The tech industry worships the grind. Eighteen-hour coding sessions. Energy drinks. The glow of a monitor at 3 AM. But the best code I have ever written came after a good night of sleep and a morning run.
The body is not separate from the mind. Treat it well, and the code follows.
